Paper covering Prince William and Manassas says Bolling "distinguished himself in his role"
RICHMOND - Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling's re-election campaign today was endorsed by the News & Messenger, a daily newspaper covering Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park.
Describing the dynamics of a lieutenant governor serving with a governor of another party, The News & Messenger said, "even though Kaine and Bolling did not share the same ideology, Bolling still managed to distinguish himself in his role."
In their endorsement, The News & Messenger cited a long list of Bolling's accomplishments as Lieutenant Governor, including increasing funding for the Governor's Opportunity Fund, cutting unnecessary regulations, helping small businesses and his proposals to address other important issues like education, transportation and health care..
The News & Messenger joins the Arlington Sun Gazette as the second Northern Virginia newspaper to endorse Lieutenant Governor Bolling.
Bolling has also been endorsed a long list of other organizations including National Federation of Independent Business/ Virginia, Virginia Association of Realtors PAC, Virginia Farm Bureau Federation's Virginia AgPAC, Virginia Credit Union League, Associated Builders and Contractors, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, National Rifle Association - Political Victory Fund, Fraternal Order of Police and Police Benevolent Association.
Excerpts from the News & Messenger endorsement are below:
"Republican Bill Bolling has been our lieutenant governor for four years under Democrat Timothy M. Kaine.
Even though Kaine and Bolling did not share the same ideology, Bolling still managed to distinguish himself in his role.
He worked on legislative efforts, including some to increase the governor's economic opportunity fund, cut unnecessary regulations and help small businesses.
He has a strong record of keeping taxes low.
He has done his best to make sure the state comes down hard on sexual offenders, and he has fought to limit eminent domain.
In addition, Bolling took his responsibilities to a new level by traveling around the Commonwealth and soliciting input from all Virginians to form his 100 Ideas for the Future of Virginia. These are comprehensive and extensive plans to deal with transportation, education, public safety and more.
If he continues as lieutenant governor, particularly under a Republican governor, he will push hard to make these plans into reality. . .
. . . Bolling has shown his worth as lieutenant governor for the last four years. We are interested to see how that worth improves under Robert F. McDonnell.
So, for lieutenant governor, we hope you will give your vote to Bill Bolling."
